Steam stopper pillows - What are those? Standard hot tub covers are made with simple steam stopper pillows as shown in the left picture above. The function these serve is to close the gap that would be left open between the halves of the cover when it is closed. Obviously, in the picture above, you can easily see the steam stopper pillow when the cover is folded back over onto it's other half. When the cover is in the closed position, the steam stopper looks like the picture to the left, whether it is a steam stopper pillow or the continuous hinge seal.
Without the steam stopper in hot tub covers, there would be no heat seal as shown.
Continuous hinge seal - What is that?
Hot tub covers can be made, alternatively, with a continuous hinge seal. This seal adds to the R-Value of hot tub covers by sealing the gap between the halves, not only at the edges like the pillows, but ACROSS THE ENTIRE COVER. For eight foot wide hot tub covers, this amounts to 96 square inches of cover that would other wise be left uninsulated! Our customers with the continuous hinge seal report that the snow no longer melts across the hinge of their hot tub covers. In a recent California test, the cover with a continuous hinge seal earned top efficiency ratings of all hot tub covers tested.
If your hot tub covers job is to keep the water warm and reduce your heating expenses as much as possible, the continuous hinge seal is for you. |
